Spinnaker Pediatric Dentistry gets its name of course from the Spinnaker Place building but also from my passion for sailing. Growing up, I learned to sail at age 8 with my father as we raced our boat in weekly regattas.
I grew up in the Midwest – predominately in Bloomington , Indiana and Northeast Missouri , near Hannibal . Additionally, I have lived in Illinois , Kentucky , and Texas . I was graduated from Canton High School in Canton , Missouri in 1988 and moved to Kansas City where I attended the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry. I was in a pilot program that combined the usual four-year undergraduate requirements and the four-year dental school into a six-year combined degree until 1994. It was here that I met my wife, Cheryl, and we were married in 1992 during a monsoon in Tucson , Arizona . In 1995, we moved to Omaha , Nebraska where I attended my pediatric residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Our family moved to Salem in 1997 when my first of two sons was five months old. I worked as a dentist for a large statewide group practice for two years and decided to hang my own shingle in 2000. My second son was born in June of the same year.
We attend Salem First Christian Church in downtown Salem where we are involved in several activities such as choir, Sunday School, Men's Fellowship just to name a few. In accordance with my Eagle Scout pledge to “give back to Scouting all it has given to me,” I have been a Cub Scout leader since my oldest son entered the Pack. Together with the daily rituals of raising a family, I stay quite busy.
To relax, I enjoy such activities as camping, flying small aircraft, wakeboarding, watching cartoons with my children, and of course, sailing.
